About

Gregg's A-List

Welcome to the Gregg’s A-List website. This isn’t a mall with everything under the sun, a discount store with a bunch of cheap crap, or a frilly boutique with trendy wannabe gear. Rather, it's a real camping equipment store where you'll find some of the best gear on the planet. We don't have everything, but everything we have is really good.  It's the A-List, after all, not the B-List. Gregg's A-List has no brick-and-mortar store but sells online and at adventure/camping-oriented events throughout the United States.

I'm Gregg.  Gregg Evans.  I grew up in a family that camped, hiked, hunted and fished more than any other family I knew.  Outdoor recreation was my family's "thing."  I was also a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Sea Explorer Scout, though I was a chronic underachiever in all three.  For high school graduation, my parents gave me a tent, a sleeping bag and a backpack, and I promptly became an avid hitchhiker, thumbing and camping my way up and down the west coast a dozen times in the mid to late 70's.  Later, I got into motorcycling, and I've motorcycled and camped all over the west.

Sometime around 2000, my youngest brother, who was by then an established player in the outdoor gear industry, asked me where motorcyclists got their camping gear. When I shrugged and answered, "Nowhere in particular," he replied, "Let's change that."  The notion of a camping gear outfitter for motorcyclists captured our imaginations, and after letting the idea percolate in our minds for several years, we launched our company, Full Throttle Camping, at Sturgis in 2006.  We lost a lot of money trying to sell camping gear at party-oriented events like Sturgis, Street Vibrations, Laughlin, the Redwood Run and Arizona Bike Week, but we found success at rallies associated with the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, the BMW Riders AssociationOverland Expo and RawHyde Adventures.

Over the course of about six years, I crisscrossed the U.S. several times, showing up at 100+ motorcycle rallies to demonstrate and sell the very best camping equipment, and as a result, Full Throttle Camping became well known for introducing innovative, high-end camping gear to motorcyclists.  Unfortunately, a good reputation doesn't pay the bills, and because the business was seasonal and the traveling-salesman business model wasn't viable (especially when gas was $4+ per gallon), we closed Full Throttle Camping after the 2012 season. Second-guessing our decision and thinking we might have pulled the plug too quickly, I launched Gregg's A-List in the summer of 2013.

Whereas Full Throttle Camping focused almost exclusively on motorcycle campers, Gregg's A-List is more inclusive, catering to four-wheel explorers, back-country aviators, horse packers, boaters, backpackers, paddlers, pedalers and weekend car/family campers in addition to motorcyclists.  Whether your adventuring is occasional or vocational, full hook-up or off the grid, across town or around the world, Gregg's A-List offers you a thoughtfully-chosen selection of core gear and accessories that pack small and light while delivering exceptional comfort and convenience.

From time to time, you'll see a gal with me in the Gregg's A-List booth.  That's my wife of over 35 years, Maria. We've traveled a lot in Asia – Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and China – walked across Wales for our 30th anniversary, motorcycled all over the western US, and driven and camped from coast to coast. We really like a good road trip! We are partners in Gregg's A-List and she joins me for a few events in the summer.  Sales are always better when she's in the booth.
